The design idea
The inspiration for the Evo lounge chair comes from Scandinavian 50s style armchairs in solid wood – but that’s the only thing classic about Evo. The timeless design in natural wood is combined with the very latest 3D-knitting technology to create a unique piece of furniture. The combination of knitted textile and solid wood is a rarity in the furniture industry today. Evo effortlessly embodies evolving traditions and design innovations. The chair benefits from circular thinking according to EFG’s ‘Keep your darlings’ design philosophy, which means our furniture is designed to last and be cherished. We’ve succeeded in creating a bespoke piece of furniture with an eye for detail and the way it’s put together. It uses a minimal amount of material, provides great comfort and the tactile experience of something you’d like to keep and treasure.
The designer
Jonas Forsman is a Swedish Industrial designer who works from the inside out. He studied industrial design engineering at Chalmers University of Technology in Gothenburg, where he has run his studio since 2006. He always sets out from functionality when creating his distinctive, well-defined products, often using different materials or new mechanical solutions as a foundation. Jonas bases all of his projects on the material itself and how to use it, and he focuses intently on sustainable solutions. He likes to find ways that allow parts to be updated or replaced to extend the life of a piece of furniture beyond current trends. Jonas has been awarded Red Dot Design several times before and also Design S for his products.
Enduring sustainability
Sustainability was a key design aspect when setting out. We wondered how we could create a comfortable armchair without using foam. The fabric is made from 100% recyclable polyester and the 3D-knitting technique minimises waste during production. Because the fabric is knitted in one piece it can easily be replaced to give the furniture a new look. Nothing is secured or permanently fastened with stitching or adhesives. All components can be removed, replaced or recycled as necessary, with only three different materials used in total. A thin, lightweight wooden frame and unstuffed textiles give Evo a low carbon footprint. The wood is FSC certified*, which means it comes from responsibly produced forests. Being sustainably manufactured entirely without padding or foam, Evo also reduces the use of chemicals. All this makes Evo a piece of furniture with enduring sustainability. Evo is certified by Möbelfakta, showing that it was sustainably produced in terms of quality, the environment and social conditions.

Evo enhances every room
Evo comes in variants in white-pigmented ash, black-stained ash and natural oak with beige or black fabric, and with or without an armrest. All designs can be combined, which makes Evo suitable for many different settings. Evo has a unique ability to both stand out and blend into its surroundings. Evo is the obvious choice for lounge, lobby or foyer areas in the office or in a hotel, but it also works perfectly in reception areas or as a meeting chair in office spaces or social areas for meetings and breaks.
